Reach your potential in 2016 - Women Can Coach!
A new year is a fantastic time for you to try something new. Whether you are thinking about coaching for the first time or want to improve your current coaching practices, Reach can support you.
Reach is a campaign created by UK Coaching to support women in coaching. It aims to identify and engage women that have a broad range of passions and experience that can be used to help get more people involved in sport through coaching.
Since launching in October, Reach has worked hard to help partners provide more opportunities for women to begin their coaching journeys and for existing coaches to develop as a coach. One example takes place in South and West Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Sport Foundation are working in eight of their most deprived communities around the region to support women with great influence in their communities to get their friends and families more active.
Sarah Milner, UK Coaching project lead for Reach said:
“We know that coaching will benefit greatly from more women getting and that women do want to coach given the right opportunities. We have no doubt at all that women can bring broader skills, life experiences and motivations that will help more people get active and stay active.
“We want women to be able to use their skills, and also develop new ones too. Being a coach is so much broader than coaching in a local sports club. It could include leading local fitness sessions, bringing the community together through playing games in the park, or organising an activity that supports a cause close to your heart.
“Coaching needs more women from different backgrounds who can empathise, understand and connect with people that currently don’t get regularly involved in sport or physical activity. You can help get more people more active, more often.”
