Hilary Lambson's Story

Hilarys StoryHilary Lambson always enjoyed netball so when there was an opportunity to carry on with netball in a walking capacity she was very excited. She has been attending the Wiltshire Council’s Walking Netball sessions since the beginning and became a host to keep the sessions sustainable and carry on the long term benefits the session brings to the participants.  She is also a regular participant of the No Strings badminton sessions at Tidworth Leisure Centre and takes part-led walks from Durrington with Get Wiltshire walking.

The walking netball s essions were originally delivered by our local Wiltshire Council Sport Development Officer, and she inspired Hilary to take on a more official hosting role as she is "a natural leader and like to organise activity".
For the people attending, it is more than just the sports interaction there are many social benefits and have created friendships.

There have been so many great moments for Hilary in delivering Walking Netball she finds it hard to pin point one! However, Wiltshire walking netball and Wiltshire Council winning a national ‘Rose Award’ for the contribution to netball over the last 12 months was a real highlight. She attended the awards ceremony at Loughborough and it was a real proud moment when their name was announced.

Hilary is always learning through other hosts and sharing ideas. She has learnt participants' reasons and motivations for attending sessions are all different as well as their abilities and skills. Making sure everyone’s needs are catered for and they are all getting the most out of walking netball is a key skill for a host.  The most important thing is to keep the sessions fun, and Hilary makes sure she changes the session's content regularly to keep the participants engaged.
She has also recently introduced doing warm ups and warm downs to music which particpants are really enjoying.
