Hardenhuish Girls Can!

DSC 0268-001‘This girl can’ is a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of organisations.

It is a celebration of active girls and women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their faces get! Here at Hardenhuish, we decided to get on board!

There has been a steady decline in participation rates of older girls in in after school sports clubs so an application was made to Sportivate to acquire funding for a girls only fitness camp.

Pupils took part in taster sessions prior to the club starting and watched a motivational presentation on the background of the national campaign.

PE staff also wore t-shirts promoting the campaign and as a result, interest started to build.

The bid was successful and thanks to £800 worth of funding, pupils are able to attend sessions run by an outside specialist - Sophie Warner, every week and take part in a range of activities designed to work them hard.  Any pupils willing to give this a go receive a t-shirt for their hard work and determination.

We have been overwhelmed by the numbers attending (over 30 every week) and are very excited to see how the club grows.
