Fun filled day of football for all

Old Sarum Girls footballThe sun shone on a crisp morning at Stanley Park Sports Ground, Chippenham and the excitement was high as we started the Level 3 Wiltshire and Swindon School Games football competition.

30 Primary Schools took part from across the county in 3 categories; Small Schools, Large School and Girls.

The atmosphere was a great and a really friendly fun day was had by all. Some of the girls were nervous to begin with but soon settled into the competition with one of the semi-finals being decided by penalties. Unfortunately Bellefield Primary who had won by penalties were disappointed to lose in the final against a very good team from Holly Cross School.

The small schools really showed that size doesn’t matter with their big hearts and excellent play it was a very close competition, with the finalists both only losing one game each on their way through the pool stages.

The larger schools competition started in the afternoon with some teams having been there since the start supporting their girl’s teams which was great to see. St Peter's C of E Academy were the eventual winners after a hard fought final against runners up from Clarendon Junior School.

The event was organized on the day by Tony Williams, Hon Secretary of Wiltshire Schools FA and Adam Greaney, Senior Football Development Officer for Wiltshire FA. They, along with the young leaders from Pulse Football Academy, based at Stanley Park, made sure the competition ran smoothly with the young leaders doing a great job refereeing the games.

Adrian Riddiford the President of the Wiltshire Schools FA commented, “It was a very good day and great to see so many young people enjoying themselves. I was pleased to be able to spend some time at the event at Stanley Park, a great venue for such an event. Once again congratulations on a job well done to all involved.” He was delighted to be able to award the medals and trophy to the Small School finalist.

Stanley Park is perfect for such a competition and thanks goes to Pete Hussey and his staff for making everyone feel very welcome.St Peters Winners of Large Schools
