Girls have fun at the School Games Level 3 Basketball Competition

St Johns Academy 2-001Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP) Level 3 Winter School Games competitions got off to a great start with the Girls’ Basketball competition held at St John’s Academy on 10 January.

The atmosphere was great with everyone encouraging each other and Bishopstrow, who had entered a team for the first time, being willed to win their first game by everyone!

Each team worked well together to involve their less experienced players and there was lots of support and advice being given amongst team members and teachers. The Commonweal school team had a Swindon Town footballer who was new to basketball and also a netballer who was struggling getting used to the different rules.

This all enhanced the competition and it was good to see such great sportsmanship being shown by all participants.

The excellent referees Walter Amos and Carl Williams helped keep everyone in check and two Young Sports Leaders from St John’s Academy were great at keeping score and supporting the officials. Everyone involved learnt a lot from the referees about the game and the rules of Basketball.

Mrs Edmondson the Principal of St John’s Academy conducted the presentation of the much deserved shields and medals to the girls. She was impressed with the girl’s determination and team work which are two of the School Games Values.

The results were as follows:Group shot

Winner - St John’s Academy

2nd Place – Commonweal

3rd Place - St Edmunds

4th Place - Bishopstrow

5th Place – Matravers
