Disability Sport

Wiltshire & Swindon Sport CIC is the County Sports Partnership for Wiltshire and Swindon supported by Sport England and our principle aim is to deliver services which benefit the community and in particular to promote and support sport and physical activity.

One of the stated key Values within our Strategy is: ‘Demonstrating and promoting Respect for the diversity in our sports community’

In addition within one of our four Strategic Objectives entitled ‘Promoting participation and sustained involvement in sport’ a stated key Action is: ‘We will enable greater participation for all’

Wiltshire & Swindon Sport (WASP) has always prided itself on working with a range of partner organisations, individuals, clubs and charities to name but a few, to offer and grow participation in sporting opportunities for young people and adults with disabilities, to support better athletes with talent potential and also to support those who want to coach and volunteer.

Within WASP’s Disability Strategy and Plan for 2014/15 we fully support inclusion in a number of ways:-

We currently have coaches delivering on the Rising Stars Disability programme along with delivering SEN sessions in local schools.

We have supported the development of a new Boccia club in Devizes and have supported numerous disability projects across the county through Sportivate and Satellite club funding.

We work very closely with the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) and attend quarterly meetings to gain up to date information and share best practice with other partners.

As part of the School Games programme we hold an annual Panathlon Event which includes  Boccia, Polybat, new age Kurling, table cricket and field athletics.

In relation to workforce we currently have a ‘Disability Coaches Campaign’ which will recruit, develop, deploy and retain disability sport coaches across Wiltshire & Swindon, creating a more diverse workforce to drive the growth of disability participation in sport.

The campaign will support coaches in attending the required Disability Awareness courses, provide mentoring support, coaching opportunities and more.
